Thank god I was *walking* when I saw this.
;)
I think this photo is the perfect visual for how I feel about driving in the UK.
P.S. Click on it for a larger view, if ya can't see what I mean...

What is this? It depends on the day. Mostly, it's my pet that can happily distract me from what I really should be doing.

Good Gad! That would take some getting use to. I'm practically speechless. I've never been to DC but I really don't think us yanks have anything like it.
LOL when I first saw it I imagined some tourist, having first mastered the art of driving with the wheel on the right, come up to the roundabout (unknown in some countries) and then thinking WTF!!!???
That was wild!I thought it was some kind of sculpture. So, Lever, how many roads feed into the roundabout?
AS you can see, We make light work of roundabouts in the UK.
We even have roundabouts that have roundabouts at each entry point.. don't believe me?.... this is one of them, there are more..
Magic!
That's hilariously amazing. I wonder if you need a bigger brain to drive in London, or if a good sense of humour is enough?
SFMD:
Yeah there's other problems with UK driving that are not spelled out in this photo, as well. Such as the fact that there're many 2-way streets that are only big enough to fit one car. In fact if I ever want to beef-up my swearing skills, I think driving in the UK would be a natural way to go about it...
My Lever:
*LMAO* Yeah, this streetlight is really only for the advanced-UK drivers...
Mummy/crit:
So how's the driving in yer part of the world? :)
Brom-man:
It all makes me dizzy....*smile*
Anna:
God, you spell humor with a bonus "U" as well? *sigh*
And my vote's for the humor part, although all the British that I've come in contact with have been super-clever as well
*transparent attempt at brown-nosing + grin*
That thing is beautiful.
Please tell me that's a joke.
Hey Becky, you'll never guess what I got it the mail!!!
Well really, you should guess.
How cool is that?
Also, was concerned to hear about the woman-peeing-at-the-car story. Whoa. London has more than just the sights to see!
*'scuse me darling, just gonna answer Mummy/Crit's question, OK? xx*
Mummy/Crit: LOL there's actually 4 exits off this, 2 being the WestFerry Rd and the other 2 are fairly minor roads... it's quite a sight to see in London, more the sort of installation you'd expect in Paris or somewhere, not that I've been to Paris or anything. Hmm, I wonder who I can go to Paris with... ;)
Lever (sorry Becky for using this spot to converse with your beloved) So are you saying that it is just you average 4 way intersection?!?!?
Driving here - well, it is completely normal (hahaha) we have some roundabouts, but they don't have lights. The weirdest one I've seen is in Adelaide, which is a real 'close your eyes and pray' situation...5 major roads feeding in/out, fortunately Adelaide is not big or busy. And then there's Canberra, designed by a Chicagoan, which is very circular and roundabout oriented, hard to navigate 'cos you can't see something and drive towards it, you really need a map there.
uh, the roundabout in paris at place charles de gaulle where the arc de triomphe meets the champs elysee is insane. there are *12* avenues going into it! the french are insane! if you want a roller coaster type of ride, ask a taxi driver to navigate it. but at least they drive on the right side of the road there! ; )
Ergo:
:)
Jay:
I can't humor you this time. But look, I'll add a U for you....
humour.
;)
And good about the postcard, dear. We were thinking of you.
My Lever:
(You are adorable.)
Thanks babe, for covering.
And Paris? "pick me, pick me!" *laughing...+ grin*
Johnny Crash:
Yeah the impracticality/complexity struck me as well... Tim Burton? SO true...
Mummy/crit:
S'cool. Talk amongst yourselves.....
And let me just point out that you used "completely normal" and "roundabout" in the same sentence. There's a bit of conflict there...I think roundabouts are wacky and can mess with your mind...*wink* We don't have them here, which is probably why a Chicagoan would f*ck up designing one. Chicago is a grid. Period. (Although there are a plethora of one way only streets that can drive ya mad.)
Nathex:
yeah I recall that roundabout, actually. It invoked a bit of stress, and I wasn't even driving...!
Chicago is way cool though, one way streets notwithstanding (my beloved is there). I have seen roundabouts in Eugene, OR. In fact have driven in them, which is weird 'cos you have to go around them backwards. My friend what I was visiting said they were a novelty item....
